When Pamela F. Short founded Short International Consulting Inc. in 2015, she was giving a practical and more formalized expression to her many years of accounting and management experience that covers the spectrum from small start-up businesses to major banks, from manufacturing to live theater, from non-profits to insurance agencies, from engineering to real estate holding, and on into the world of film and digital production.

Since graduating with her MBA in Finance from the University of Idaho, she has acquired extensive experience in all aspects of accounting and bookkeeping including cash flow and budgeting, full-cycle accounting through month-end reporting, preparation and analysis of financial statements and executive management reports, day-to-day bank reconciliation, A/R, A/P, wiring Funds and foreign currency exchange, credit card reconciliation, expense reimbursement and problem resolution. Her broad range of skills in financial analysis includes preparing forecast and variance analysis on a weekly, monthly, and annual basis.

Her management experiences have honed her skills in human resource management including recruiting, hiring, onboarding, timekeeping, payroll and benefits administration, performance evaluation, and career development. She has repeatedly demonstrated her mastery of team building and staff motivation to achieve superior productivity and establish workplace cultures conducive to personal and corporate accomplishment.

Over the past several years she has brought all of this to the aid and support of her clients as a freelance controller and accountant, and as a sounding board and management resource. Pam understands that every business is unique, even when they operate in the same industry, and that even though they may face similar challenges, the solutions for each must be as individual and unique as the businesses themselves.

In addition to her M.B.A. in Finance, she has studied Business Communications and Writing at Regis University and is a Certified Bookkeeper in the National Association of Certified Bookkeepers. She is also a QuickBooks Online Advanced ProAdvisor.

Donald D. Short brings over 30 years of diverse legal, management, and management consulting experience to Short International to help its clients navigate through these challenging times.

That experience includes several years of Canadian legal experience including public utility regulation, bank financing, securities law, negotiating and drafting commercial contracts, commercial litigation, acting as general corporate counsel to both private and public corporations, and devising business organization structures to maximize financial flexibility and to minimize product liability exposure.

He accepted the invitation of a manufacturing client in a litigation-intensive business to join them in the United States as their Operations Manager, where for several years he oversaw their legal affairs, developed computerized systems for coordinating inventory management with production scheduling, and managed quality control.

He then moved into business management consulting, accumulating more than a decade of experience as Senior Project Manager, Business Consultant, and In-House Canadian collections attorney for a large North American business management consulting firm, including two and a half years in Corporate Headquarters as Acting Consulting Services Director. Don worked with more than 700 financially challenged clients across a wide range of industries and businesses throughout North America to help them understand the financial impact of decisions and changes within their companies, and how to develop and implement strategies to maximize margins and cashflow and increase available cash and working capital. He designed and set up accounting and financial information systems, including practical cashflow management systems, and trained clients to operate and maintain those systems.

He leveraged his experience to drive improvements in production planning and management, increasing efficiency and quality of operations, and to develop and implement practical financial and operational systems, controls and solutions for cost control and cost reduction, purchasing and inventory control, troubleshooting and correcting production problems, and development and implementation of computerized information systems. He became a passionate advocate of the Theory of Constraints analysis and process improvement.

He went on to establish his own independent consultancy, D. Short International, in which he developed and implemented a new financial modeling system for LTL trucking operations, enabling accurate cost allocations and new pricing strategies to significantly increase average operating margins by refocusing marketing and sales efforts. He created comprehensive control systems to double the size of a major New York studio equipment rental house, and he worked with a number of commercial lenders to develop a practical financial modeling and business planning system to assist their customers with meeting requirements for SBA guaranteed loans. In recent years D. Short International has been rolled into Short International Consulting Inc., merging with his wife Pamela’s accounting and freelance CFO services.

Don holds a law degree from the University of Calgary and is a member (currently inactive) of the Law Society of Alberta and the Law Society of Upper Canada (Ontario). He has been a certified QuickBooks Pro Advisor for many years, and currently holds the QuickBooks Online Advanced Certification.
